A practical course on fuel dispenser verification equipped sixty officers with harmonised procedures, and inspection findings improved within one quarter.
Fuel dispensers are among the most visible measuring instruments in daily life, and public trust in them depends on regular, competent verification. Member states in the sub-region asked AFRIMETS for a harmonised approach to training their field officers.
The resulting course combined classroom sessions on legal requirements with hands-on verification at service stations, using proving measures and procedures agreed by the technical committee for legal metrology.
Consumers notice when inspections are consistent. The training gave our officers one procedure and the confidence to apply it.
Sixty officers from five countries completed the course. Participating authorities report more consistent inspection records, faster handling of consumer complaints and a clearer process for sealing and re-verifying instruments that fail.
The course materials are now maintained as a regional resource and have been translated for use in French-speaking member states.
