Innovation at AFRIMETS means bringing digital tools, smart instruments and new research into the work of national metrology institutes, and sharing what works across the region.
Metrology is moving from paper to data. Calibration certificates are becoming machine-readable, measuring instruments are connected to networks, and the International System of Units is being expressed in digital form. Institutes that adopt these changes can serve industry faster and with greater confidence; those that do not risk being left outside the international measurement system.
Most African institutes face the same questions at the same time: which standards to follow, which systems to invest in, and how to train their staff. Working through AFRIMETS lets them answer those questions once, share pilots and results, and speak with one voice in international fora.
This section describes the four areas where AFRIMETS concentrates its innovation work: digital metrology, smart metrology, research, and the innovation hub that connects institutes with universities, industry and partners.
